I've read about kids coming out of orphanages and devouring their food like it's the first time they've been allowed to eat. Not these two. It was very apparent to us that they have always had plenty to eat and have healthy relationships with food. For her first five and a half years, Anya was taken care of and loved as much as her caregivers could love her. For this I am very, very grateful. I know that most here in Eastern Europe who are born with special needs are not so lucky.
So it looks like the Mac-n-Cheese got a thumbs-up. And the apples and bread, too!
I walked to the store to get a few things and when I came back, they were both in the bath, happy as can be. Another surprise for us. They told me at the orphanage that they shower the kids once a week and don't give baths because it would take too much time. Anya was a little hesitant when Katrina was filling the tub, but as soon as she saw Vahnya get in and start splashing away, she thought, "that looks fun!" She was much more calm than him, since she's more mature and all. :) She just poured water from one cup to another the whole time. Neither one of them were a bit happy when it was time to get out.All cozy in their new jammies. Don't you just want to eat 'em all up?
Today was Anya's first day ever in her life with no nap. She was too hyped up from the excitement to settle down for one and I didn't want to fight it, especially since I've never had a child this age who takes naps! I'm lucky if they make it to age three!
So she was pretty tired by 9:00. It took her about 20 minutes to finally give up. But the whole time she was getting there, she had to have some part of her body touching me. If I moved, she would snuggle closer.
Tonight, my little girl experienced something she's never experienced in her five and a half years on this earth.
A mommy to snuggle next to.
Thank you, Dear Father for giving me this perfect child.
I don't know why you chose me, or if I'll ever be worthy of this calling. But thank you.
She's simply beautiful.

Praise the Lord!!!! SOOOO Happy for you and your sweet girl Heather!!!
ReplyDeleteOh how sweet! You are certainly blessed and I am clinging on every post, word and photo as I enjoy journeying with you! I bet someone needs to pinch you that she is really sleeping in the same room as you. Quite surreal i bet.

It has been wonderful to follow your steps to your daughter. These posts brings me memorys back in 10 years when I got my son. I remember how he loved to sleep by me and just like Anya Jusa didn´t want me to move at all. He wanted to feel me his mom all the time.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for your family to get your baby home! Hope to read about your life still from here every once in a while.
Have a safe trip home to your family. I bet they can´t wait to see you.

Oh Heather! SOO SOOO sweet!!! She looks adorable with her hair down! I do just want to eat them both up! I totally cried reading about her getting to snuggle with her MOMMY for the first time! Oh I am so happy for you all! Does it feel like a dream?! I can't wait to be in that moment you are in right now! (I just got those same pj's for Bree!)
ReplyDeleteloves to you all on the rest of your journey!
Heather, I sit here crying tears as I read Gotcha day 1 and 2. I am so stinking happy for you and I can't wait until I can post a similar post on my blog :) You are soooo blessed. Good luck on getting her out of the "flop and drop" phase, LOL. Ashlyn is 11 and still pulls that on me...every single day :)
ReplyDeleteWow-had to do a double take when I saw her tub time pic-she looks a lot like Em in that picture. Is so cool how kids with Ds can look so much alike at times!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! This sooo warms my heart and gives me hope that my seemingly endless paperwork journey has a BRIGHT light at the end of the tunnel!
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog from another one during your first trip. I have been checking on you every day since then. Since I started reading your blog, I have been feeling a pull...don't know anything yet for sure, but I feel like someone is tapping me on the shoulder..or the heart. Maybe that's why I have here so much. She's beautiful, and she quite possibly may have changed my life.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable! She knows she is loved. Together at last!
ReplyDeleteTears again. She is 100% beautiful and 100% YOURS!! Awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are sooo cute. Every time I go to the RR website and see that another child will be going home my heart jumps for joy. But to see that these two were so well taken care of brings hope to my heart. I follow so many blogs of children who were so badly neglected. I love how she wanted to be next to you. I love to take naps with Nevaeh because she always wants to hold my finger or have me but my hand under her cheek while she is sleeping. Thanks again for the wonderful post. In a world that has so much pain it is so nice to see happiness.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful girls! Congratulations!! Praying for a quick, smooth, safe trip home!! McKenna (from RR)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you both! She is gorgeous! You are indeed very blessed! :)

What perfection, yes she truely is. I can't begin to tell you how lucky and fortunate you are to have each other. Anya's life is about to change forever, she is about to see what it's like to have a real family and yes a mom and dad to snuggle up to at bed time. These are such precious pictures. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart.
